About the Observatory
The MAPPING Policy Observatory aims to establish a “policy watch” activity throughout the project, having at its center a monitoring of policies and projects concerning the relationship between Internet and society at European, national and local levels, based on a participatory and multidisciplinary approach, taking into account and valorizing the points of view/positions of the different involved actors.
The objectives of the Observatory are:
- to offer a synthetic overview on the policy matters related to Mapping project core activities;
- to present updated monthly comparison tables on key issues related to the policy issues relevant for the Mapping project;
- to allow free re-use of the information produced in order to allow any current and future web 2.0 products. The entire database is available as a dump on a CC BY 4.0 licence.
As the Observatory is focused on the policy activities, its aim is not to replicate or duplicate existing work, but rather to gather, organize and systematize publicly available information related to the important topics for the MAPPING project, in order to be easier accessible and followed by any person interested in any or all the covered topics.
The MAPPING project
MAPPING (Managing Alternatives for Privacy, Property and Internet Governance) is to create an all-round and common understanding of the many and varied economic, social, legal and ethical aspects of the recent developments on the Internet, and their consequences for the individual and society at large.
